WordPress is one of the best website building platforms when it comes to SEO. Google loves WordPress because it’s SEO friendly and is very flexible.
You can manage practically every aspect of your site’s SEO using dedicated plugins. Yoast and Rank Math are 2 of those SEO plugins.
What is Yoast SEO?
Yoast is one of the oldest and most popular SEO plugins for WordPress. It’s been used by more than 5 Million site owners. It’s packed with lots of handy options to help you rank higher in organic search results.
What is Rank Math SEO?
Rank Math is the new kid on the block. This relatively new plugin is described as the “Swiss Army Knife of WordPress SEO”. It includes an impressive number of SEO features and quickly became a viable alternative to Yoast.
The plugin is currently used by more than 700K website owners and is growing pretty fast thanks to constant updates and improvements.
Is Rank Math better than Yoast?
Both plugins have pros and cons. I wouldn’t say that Rank Math is better than Yoast or vice versa. It really depends on what requirements you have.
On one hand, Yoast is easy to use and set up, but has a limited number of options and integrations. Also, they had some major issues with a few releases (image attachement bug, no index bug, etc.).
On the other hand, Rank Math has more features (schema, redirects, 404 monitoring, image SEO, etc.) and integrates well with Elementor, but is harder to use and easier to misconfigure.
Rank Math or Yoast?
If you need a ready to use SEO plugin, which is easy to manage and configure, then Yoast is a great choice.
If you want more control over your site’s SEO and need more options: Rank Math is the best solution for you.
How to migrate from Yoast to Rank Math?
If you decided to make the switch from Yoast to Rank Math, follow the steps listed below, to keep your website’s ranking and keep your existing settings.
1. Make sure Yoast SEO plugin is active
Before migrating, make sure Yoast plugin is active on your site. Do not deactivate and remove it for now.
2. Install Rank Math plugin
Go to Plugins – Add new – Search for Rank Math – click on Install now and then on Activate.
3. Launch the Setup Wizard
Go to Rank Math – Dashboard – Setup Wizard.
Then, select Easy or Advanced mode – click on Start Wizard.
4. Import SEO settings
Select Yoast SEO, expand the options to choose all the import settings that you need. Click on Start Import. Then, click on Continue.
5. Go through the remaining Wizard steps
Once you complete all the steps (you can also skip steps) and return to your Dashboard, Rank Math will automatically deactivate the Yoast SEO plugin.
6. Done, Yoast is deactivated and Rank Math is configured
That’s it, you now have imported all your settings from Yoast and successfully configured Rank Math.
The migration process is pretty simple and straightforward, props to the Rank Math team for implementing this handy feature.
Once you switched to Rank Math, you can double check all your settings, to make sure you didn’t miss anything important.
